Accessories and Objects

Brilli is a Belgian born, Paris based designer who after serving under Olivier Theyskens at Rochas, launched her own accessories and objects line in 2004. Her pieces are quite diverse - some draw on gothic influences while others feel earthy. The accessories really  are pieces of art to be worn on the body and her objects would be at home in a design gallery or a super mod home.

Where do all the wild things grow?

I am going ga ga for Gucci's Autumn/Winter 08 collection. Frida Giannini, the genius Creative Director for Gucci's new line features animalesque furs, leather fringing and feathers which play with studded and brandished accessories.  She has melded the rock chick, flower child and folk gypsy woman into one and taken her to a new level of luxury. It may be nothing new in terms of visionary fashion, but a woman should be able to revel in the character they play when they wear one of these pieces.

This central St Martin's Graduate recently won the L'Oreal Fashion Design award at London Fashion Week and will be collaborating with Topshop on a more purse-friendly line. Her chunky hand knitted pieces give a structural, armoured appeal to battling the winter months ahead.

Dryden Goodwin

'Cast' exhibition at the Photographer's Gallery, London 25 Sept - 16 Nov 08

Goodwin etches cobweb fine markings onto the faces of his passer by subjects on dark london streets and buses.  His subjects are unaware of Goodwin's shutter snapping, revealing the sombre rawness of the london psyche. 

Goodwin says his drawings are his way of 'thinking into the photograph'.  His etchings are projections of what he imagines the subjects to be thinking but somehow they seem so authentic that it is almost like he is reading their mind.
